RE: Personal Information (“kojin jouhou” in Japanese)
In Japan, Personal information protection law is getting stricter these days, and Japanese people became overly sensitive about personal information, especially their own pictures.
Do you know there is “Data Privacy Act of 2012” in the Philippines?
Please refer to the linked URL below:
We guess that not a few Filipino trainees lack awareness of personal information protection, and upload picture of other people, or what belongs to others.
Therefore, we often receive complaints from employers, staff of Globe, or others, to delete images immediately.
Do you know why they get so upset, and make a complaint?
Because, once it is uploaded, unspecified number of people will see it, download it without any permission, or it will go viral (spread).. It may humiliate them.
No one knows how it will be used for the wrong purposes…
In general, we, Japanese doesn’t like to upload our own pictures on the internet, or be uploaded by others, unlike most Filipino.
Also, it will go against the personal information protection law of Japan.
Let’s get to the brass tacks.
This is the strong request from employers, Globe, and all other Japanese, to Filipino trainees.
Do not upload picture or video that belongs to Globe, employer, or others, or other’s rented room, factory, field, etc., on the internet (on Social media, like Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
For example, other person, or what belongs to others, like office, factory, working site, shipyard, building, farm, field.
And, name, birth date, address, telephone number, fax number, Email address, car or motorcycle license plate(number), passport, residence card (alien registration card), health insurance card, calling card(business card), patient registration card, pension book, employment contract, notice of identification number, or other ID cards, etc.
As an exception, if you want to upload picture or video with other person, or what belongs to others, you MUST get a permission from the person for sure. That is the minimum condition. Uploading picture of other people without their permission is strictly prohibited(not allowed).
However, as a common sense, images of injured parts of body, or images that expose a part of the body, such as a sexual part, that will be charged in public sexual indecency, must not be uploaded even if you get permission.
Also, try not to include others or what belongs to others when you take a picture.
Now, I’m sure you understand why you have to protect other person’s personal information.
Then, why should you protect your own personal information?
This is because, for the protection of yourself, too.
If you upload your passport, residence card, address, or telephone number, notice of identification number, employment contract, injured parts of your body at factory, etc., someone may go to your apartment, or call you, or send unnecessary mails to you again and again, or you may be harassed by a stalker, or co-trainees may suffer physical or mental damage, or your employer may lose trust from clients, or your picture may be downloaded, sent, or printed out without permission from you on the internet, etc.
